Bio

Drupon Rinchen Tsering

Drupon Rinchen Tsering was born in 1969 in Kampa Yushu State, Eastern Tibet. At 16, he became a monk at Yushu Thrangu Monastery in Qinghai and began to receive training and study in Buddhism in traditional Kagyu monasteries. Up until 1989, Drupon-la went to the Pelpung Monastery in eastern Tibet to receive Bhikshu ordination in front of His Eminence Tai Situ Rinpoche and received all the empowerments, oral transmissions, and Buddhist teachings of the Kagyu sect for three consecutive months.

In 1994, he completed the profound teachings of Supreme Yoga Tantra, and since then, Drupon-la has become a meditation guru at four retreat centers at Yushu Thrangu monastery in Qinghai. During these retreats, there are more than 300 monks that are under Drupon-la’s guidance. In addition, Drupon-la is also responsible for the management and spiritual guidance of the 400 monks living at the monastery, and is one of the monastery’s most important teachers.

In 2008, Drupon-la was invited by Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche IX in Melbourne to lead Western students in different retreat courses, including: Vajravarahi, Chakrasamvara, Guru Padmasambhava, and the Six Yogas of Naropa. In April 2015, under the guidance of Drupon-la, the first three-year and three-month retreat in Melbourne was finally completed.

In August 2015, the reincarnation, the 10th Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche, was officially confirmed. Drupon-la was appointed by Thrangu Rinpoche, Zuri Rinpoche and Lodro Nyima Rinpoche as the primary Dharma teacher of the 10th Traleg Rinpoche, shouldering the important responsibility of cultivating and growing the young Rinpoche’s spiritual education.

Drupon-la is a highly respected and down-to-earth guru in the Khampa Tibetan area, known for his selfless compassion for the benefit of sentient beings. His elegant words and deeds, and his humble personality, fully demonstrate the qualities of a real practitioner, expressing the definition of compassion through his actions and promoting the Dharma with Bodhicitta.
